Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her career began in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
